About the Society

The GVRS is a thriving club with over 220 members.

We organise the Veteran and Vintage Rally in Oldmeldrum, Aberdeenshire
on the first Sunday in August each year.

The Society is run by a Committee of volunteers consisting of
a President, Vice-president, Treasurer, Secretary and 16 members.
We meet once a month in the Hopeville Social Club in Inverurie.

If you feel you can assist in any way please come along to one of the meetings.
There is a relaxed atmosphere and you will be made welcome.
The Annual General Meeting is held in November.

Over the year we organise evening or weekend visits to places of interest.
We have visited Private Car and Steam Engine Collections in the area,
a local Dairy, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency HQ,
the Harbour Control Centre in Aberdeen, and many others.

We turn up in our Classics where possible.

We organise a road run on the National "Drive It Day"
Drive It Day is usually held on the nearest Sunday to the 23rd April.
This date was chosen in 2005 to commemorate the 64 cars which set off on
the 23rd April 1900 on a 1000 mile Trial, an incredible undertaking in those days
and one which we believe deserves an annual celebration.
It also shows the public that we use our vehicles.
In 2009 we met at the Beach Esplanade then went in small groups through the
streets of Aberdeen, over the Bridge of Dee and down to Stonehaven.
After driving through Stoney the 20 or so vehicles went down the coast road to Montrose
then out the Brechin Road to the House of Dun.
We had a conducted tour of this magnificent property then had lunch in it's restaurant.
The rest of the day was free to do what you wanted.
Some walked through the gardens or went to the Angus Folk Museum at Glamis.
The Triumphs came home over the Cairn o' Mount, stopping at the summit for photos.

The weather was good to us and everyone enjoyed the day out.
On the route we saw several other Clubs out for their runs.
Details of other Drive it Day Runs can be seen by clicking

Since then the event has grown year after year.
in 2022 we had over 130 vehicles at the beach

The highlight of the year is, of course, our own Garioch Vintage & Veteran Rally,
held in the pleasure Park in Oldmeldrum. This always takes place on the
1st Sunday in August. We don't charge an entry fee for entrants or spectators.
There aren't many Clubs who can say that.
In 2022 we had 394 entries on the field.

To raise money we hold a raffle and sell regalia, books and Bric a Brac.
This usually raises enough to cover the Rally expenses but not the running of
the other events. We also collect for a differentlocal charity each year.
To raise more funds we run a very successful 100 Club starting in January.
At £1 per month you can enter a monthly draw.
Monthly prizes are £25 and £15 with a Christmas draw of £100, £60 and £30.
Anyone can join the 100 Club so if you are interested, visit the 100 Club page.

We attend other rallies over the year. Members have been to Orkney, Shetland,
Scone Palace, Duff House, Fyvie Castle, Kildrummy Castle, Historic Wheels,
and many others.

We also assist the Thomson Memorial Fellowship with their rally in Stonehaven.

Members are sent a monthly Newsletter.
This keeps everyone up to date with events.

Our annual Bus Run is in September. We have been to places such as
the Falkirk Wheel, the Royal Yacht Britannia, the Scottish Bus Museum,
the National Air Museum at East Fortune in East Lothian,
The Riverside Museum in Glasgow, Summerlee Museum in Coatbridge,
Fort George near Inverness and Dundee Transport Museum & RRS Discovery.

Great days out with a High Tea on the way home.

The last event of the year is our Christmas Meal held in Inverurie.
